What is an Embroidered Badge?

14 th January 2026

An embroidered badge is created by stitching the design onto a base cloth of polycotton twill.

This option provides a richer, more textured finish than a woven badge and is particularly well suited to smaller production runs, with bespoke orders starting from a minimum of 50 badges. Its slightly coarser thread structure enhances the tactile quality of the design, making it ideal for artwork that does not rely on extremely fine detail. Our palette includes more than 200 standard colours, and we also offer neon, glow‑in‑the‑dark, ultraviolet and metallic thread options to ensure your badge achieves maximum visual impact.

Badges can be completed with either an overlocked edge or a laser‑cut edge, depending on the desired finish.

An overlocked edge is produced using a continuous line of binding stitches that secure the front of the badge, wrap neatly around its perimeter, and anchor to the reverse side, creating a durable and uniform border.

A laser‑cut edge is achieved by cutting the badge precisely to shape using laser technology. The heat seals the fibres as it cuts, preventing fraying and ensuring a clean, crisp, and refined outline.

A standard embroidered badge features a durable twill backing and is designed for application by sewing directly onto the chosen garment. A range of optional backing upgrades are available, including heatseal (for application with an iron), Velcro, and adhesive backings to suit different attachment requirements. Most designs utilise up to nine colours as standard, with the option to incorporate as many as twelve colours for more detailed or visually complex artwork.
